Poughkeepsie, NY- The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team topped No. 14 ranked MIT on Saturday night. Sage bested the Engineers 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, 25-23). The win marks the first Gator men's victory over a nationally ranked opponent under the tenure of head coach Robert Verhayden. Sage is now 9-13 overall and 3-5 in the UVC, while MIT drops to 13-4 overall and 2-4 in the UVC.
Sage's senior outside hitter Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) added a double-double on 12 kills with 10 digs. He added two aces and 15.0 points and had a .348 attack percentage. Guyton now has 1,075 career kills, while also owning the program's all-time points and aces records. He boasts 192 career aces and 1,358.5 points.
Senior outside hitter Bailey Cecchi (Agawam, MA/Agawam) added 11 kills with seven digs and four block assists. Cecchi is also climbing the career kill mark with 1,063 kills with 1,248.0 points and 110 aces, all of which are also second all-time performances at Sage.
Sophomore Scott Sanders (Los Angelos, CA/Taft) picked up four kills with four block assist, while sophomore Shane Wenz (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) also finished with four kills with four block assists.
Senior libero Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) picked up 11 digs with two setting assists adding to his active career dig mark that has grown to 834. Rookie setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) added 15 setting assists with 10 digs, while sophomore Jarod Martel (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) racked up five kills with four digs.
Sage will be back in action on March 25 at Vassar taking on the host Brewers in a UVC match-up.
