Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted the Continentals of Hamilton College on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference title. Hamilton College used a 2-0 lead at the half to earn the win and improve to 3-3-1, while the loss puts Sage at 4-4 on the year.
Hamilton struck first at the 31:46 mark as freshman forward Cat Gambino (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) converted the feed from the right side off of the corner kick taken by junior defender Cassie Hayward (Ashford, CT/Pomfret School). Less than ten minutes later, rookie Sydney Kim (Aldie, VA/Freedom) connected on her first collegiate goal on a pass from another rookie, Kayleigh Miller (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) at 40:17 to give Hamilton the 2-0 lead at the break and enough to keep the win for the Continentals.
Sage's junior goalie Emma Augustine (Wawarsing, NY/Ellenville) made a career-best 14 saves in the match including a number of strong kicks saves to prevent what could have been a sure goal.
Hamilton's senior Emily Dumont (North Andover, MA/Dana Hall School) collected the win after making the start and was relieved at the half by rookie Rachel Pike (Los Angeleos, CA/The Archer School for Girls). Pike made two saves in the second half for Hamilton.
Next up for the Gators, they will host St. John Fisher College in conjunction with an Empire 8 doubleheader as Sage's women's and men's team both play at home at the ACP Athletic Complex. Sage will be holding their Coaches vs. Cancer games on Saturday with proceeds from the contest benefitting the American Cancer Society. Hamilton is back in action Friday, September 29 hosting Wesleyan University in a 5 p.m. home league match.
