Sage drops game one, but shuts down Chatham in nightcap with 13-0 win

Myrtle Beach, SC – Sage's softball team took on Eastern Mennonite University and Chatham College on Tuesday while competing in South Carolina. The Gators are competing in the 2018 Fastpitch Dreams Tournament. Sage dropped the first game 3-2 to eastern Mennonite, but rebounded with an offensive explosion topping Chatham, 13-0 in five innings. Sage is now 2-2 on the young season.

In the first game, EMU collected the 3-2 win after collecting a walk off in the bottom of the seventh inning as designated played Sydney Reath had an RBI single to left field to collect the game-winning hit.

Sage's rookie pitcher Katerina Lagace (Newington, CT/Newington) worked 6.1 innings with two earned runs off four hits with a pair of walks and two strikeouts. Senior pitcher Amy Hart (St. Johnsville, NY/Little Falls) came in the circle for the Gators with one out, but gave up a walk and a single.

At the plate, senior infielder Alexa Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) was 2 for 4 with a run scored and added a stolen base.

In the nightcap, Sage collected the first shutout win of the year as the Gators tacked on 11 hits en route to the victory in five innings. Senior infielder Alexa Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) added a triple with three stolen bases with three runs scored off her three hits in four at bats.

Rookie infielder Emily Agate (Franklin Square, NY/H. Frank Carey) added a 2-3 day with a three RBIs to go with her two doubles and a pair of stolen bases.

The Gators added four doubles with five extra-base hits. Graduate performer Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) picked up a double with a two runs scored after a 1-3 effort at the plate. Rimawi now has 27 career doubles, which ranks ninth all-time on the Sage career record book, while Alexa Silk has elevated her career resume to include 163 career hits, 34 doubles, and 57 stolen bases. She is now fifth in career hits, fifth in career doubles and second in steals.

Hart picked up the win with her five inning shutout effort, putting her at 1-1 on the season. She has 14 career wins now at Sage with 165 career strikeouts. She stands third all-time in career strikeouts, while ranking 11th in career wins.

Sage is back in action on Wednesday, March 7 facing Regis College (MA) and Randolph College at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
