Gator men top Hartwick 85-77 in E8 play

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team hosted the Hawks of Hartwick College on Tuesday evening in an Empire 8 contest. Sage held on to post the 85-77 win and improves to 11-13 overall and 6-9 in the Empire 8. Hartwick drops to 8-15 overall and 5-9 in the league.

Sage led 46-37 at the half as senior guard Jordan DeVaughn (Jacksonville, FL/Flora McDonald Academy) led the team with 15 points in the half. He added three baskets from downtown, while sophomore Isaiah Scurry (Albany, NY/Albany) picked up 11 points in the first half.

Hartwick tied the game at 70-70 with 6:43 left to play as senior forward Marc du Moulin (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) hit a jumper and was fouled. He made the free throw and gave Hartwick a 71-70 lead. There were three lead changes over the next two plus minutes before the game was last tied at 75-75 at 2:48. Sage's junior center Kevin Lenehan (Delanson, NY/Duanesburg) added a layup at 2:20 and senior Wayne Weir (Bronx, NY/Samuel Gompers) buried a three pointer to help the Gators' lead grow back to three points, 78-75 at 1:42 and help Sage collect the win as Hartwick was never able to close the gap in the final minutes of play.

Lenehan finished with a double-double on 17 points with 14 rebounds after making 7-of-12 shots from the floor. Devaughn added 20 points with five assists, while Weir finished with 12 points.

Hartwick's rookie guard Patrick Garey (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) added 14 points off the bench, while rookie Tommy Kelly (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) finished with 12 points, including eight points in the first half. Du Moulin added 11 points with six rebounds for the Hawks, while junior guard Brandon LaForest (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) added 11 points with four rebounds and four assists.     

Sage is back in action on Saturday, February 17 hosting St. John Fisher College in a 2 p.m. Empire 8 contest. Prior to Saturday's contest, Sage will recognize their 2018 seniors, Barceem Dukes, Stephen Paulk, Jordan Devaughn, and Wayne Weir.
