Rochester, NY – Sage's softball player, senior shot stop Alexa Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) has been named the Empire 8 Softball Player of the Week. The honor for the senior adds to her extensive resume at Sage as she becomes the first Sage softball player honored as the Gators moved to the Empire 8 this season.

Alexa Silk led the Gator offense on its spring training trip. Over eight games, Silk batted .567 (17-for-30) with three triples and nine RBI. She scored eight runs, stole eight bases on nine attempts and only struck out once at the plate. Silk recorded a hit in each game, including a 3-for-4 performance against Chatham and a 4-for-5 showing against Randolph College.
In her final season on the team, Silk is leading her charge to rewrite the program's record book. She has now played in 117 games (14th), while adding 397 career at-bats (5th), and is now tied for third in career hits with Melissa Roy (170). Silk is also fifth with 35 career doubles, and has eight career triples and is tied for fifth, while also ranking second now with her 123 career runs scored. Silk is eighth with 77 RBI's but is looking to break the career stolen base mark as she has 59, just six behind the mark of 65 set by Kristen Beikirch.
The Gators will be in action next on March 21 when they host Westfield State University in a non-conference doubleheader at Robison Field (Troy, NY) at 3:30 p.m.
