Sanders sweeps Rookie Honors; Earns UVC and Empire 8 Rookie Citations

Rochester, NY-  The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team was well represented on Monday afternoon with the release of the weekly awards for the Empire 8 and the United Volleyball Conference players. Sage's sophomore middle hitter Scott Sanders (Los Angeles, CA/Taft) was honored with as the Rookie of the Week for both groups.

Sanders helped Sage to a 1-2 week with two matches going five sets for the Gators. Sanders had 30 kills on the week with a .549 attack percentage and 39.0 points. He added double-digit kills in two matches as he had 12 kills as Sage faced Elms College and 11 kills against Wells College. He racked up a .524 attack percentage in the first match with Elms, a .500 attack percentage against Wells and a red-hot .700 attack percentage in the win against Emmanuel College. He also added eight digs on the week with 14 total blocks.

Overall on the year, Sage is 3-5 on the young season and will be in action on February 6 at Southern Vermont College for a 7 p.m. non-conference match. Sanders has 58 kills with a .427 attack percentage, which leads the Gators. He also has 13 digs with a team-best 20 total blocks on six solo blocks and 14 block assists. He is third in scoring with 72.0 points in 26 sets played thus far.
