Albany, NY-- The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team hosted the Saxons of Alfred University on Saturday night in an Empire 8 match. The Gators earned a 13-3 win for their first league victory. Sage improves to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the Empire 8. Alfred drops to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in the league.
Sage led 7-1 at the half and combined for strong offensive output as six different players scored in the action.
Sage's senior Martine Ianniello (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) paced the Gators with a season-best four goals in the match. She added two ground ball pickups with a caused turnover. She is now tied for sixth in career points with 49 points. She is seventh in career goals with 42 and is the team's second leading scorer this spring on 16 points with 13 goals and three assists.
Classmate Torri Sperl (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) picked up three goals with two assists for five points, elevating her team-leading numbers to include 26 points on 21 goals and five assists. She is fifth all-time with 66 career points, while boasting 59 career goals with is fourth best.
Sophomore Anne Risler (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) added five points as well on two goals with three assists. Risler now has 14 points on the season and has nine goals with five assists. Senior Adriana Spucches (Saugerties, NY/Red Hook) added three points on a pair of goals with an assist.
Sophomore Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) tallied one goal with two draw controls with two ground ball pickups. Gage now has 53 career draws to her credit and is now fifth on the Gator career list. Graduate performer Savannah Mason (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) racked up five ground ball pickups with three draws and is now 10th with her 35 draws and fourth in career ground ball scoops as she has 78 in her time with the Gators.
Alfred's senior midfielder Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) scored all three of the goals for the Saxons on Saturday.
Sage's rookie goalie Carly Plaisance (Bennington, VT/Mount Union Anthony) made the start and recorded a six saves in the win for the Gators as she collected her first career victory in goal. Senior goalie Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) suffered the loss after making 17 saves in the action.
Next up for the Gators, they will visit Hartwick College for a 4 p.m. Empire 8 match-up on Wednesday, April 11.
