Gwynedd Valley, PA- The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team opened the new season on Saturday afternoon competing in the Gwynedd Mercy College Tip-Off Tournament. The Gators fell 59-52 to Haverford (2-0) putting the Sage at 0-1 on the young season.
The Gators led 26-25 at the half, but the Ford used a strong fourth quarter to overtake Sage for their second win on the year. Sage held a 45-44 lead at the end of the third quarter, but Haverford outscored Sage 15-7 in the final quarter. Samantha Wetzel added six points and seven rebounds in the final quarter to lead her team to the win. She finished with a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Sage's junior guard Macie Holmes (Amsterdam, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) led the team with her 16 points with five rebounds. She added three buckets from downtown as well and now has 86 career three-point baskets, which is No. 9 all-time at Sage. Sophomore forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) collected a career-high 14 points and added a double-double with her 10 rebounds.
Junior guard Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) had eight points with four assists and is currently 10th all-time with her 189 career assists.
Rookie forward Madasyn Bush (Pottersville, NY/North Warren Central) added 10 points in her collegiate debut and added six caroms as well for the Gators. Senior Genevieve Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) was held to four points in the contest with three rebounds. Schoff ranks fifth all-time in scoring at Sage with 1,035 points, while ranking third in rebounding with 666.
Sage is back in action on Sunday in the consolation game of the tournament at noon.
