Sage volleyball team tops MCLA 3-0 on Wednesday

Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball hosted the Trailblazers of MCLA on Wednesday night in a non-conference match at Kahl Gym, Sage posted the 3-0 win beating MCLA, 25-17, 25-19, 25-13 and improve to 6-16, while MCLA drops to 5-13.

Leading the way for the Gators sophomore outside hitter Jessica Carrozzi (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) as she had eight kills in the match with thee digs. Rookie outside hitter Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) added eight seven kills for the Gators with eight digs, two aces, and two block assists.  

Sage's sophomore middle hitter Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville) collected seven kills with a .235 attack percentage, while adding six block assists and ten points. Senior libero Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) led the team with her 13 digs and added four aces. Senior Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) also picked up a 15 setting assists to go with her five kills, two aces, nine digs, and four total blocks.

Junior setter Brittany Orminski (Galway, NY/Galway) added 16 setting assists with 11 digs, and three block assists with a pair of kills as the Gators combined for 13 aces in the action.

The Gator seniors continue their march up the Sage women's volleyball record book. Nellis moved into the No. 18 spot in career kills with 432 as she moved past Kristiana Leniart (1998-2001 with 430 kills). She is now seventh with her 175 total blocks. Schneiderman in currently tied for 15th in career aces with 121 as she moved past both Helen Putriment (2011-2014) and Joanie Cooney (2010-2013) with 119. She is tied for 15th with Kelsey Wilson (121, 2008-2011). Schneiderman now has 1,283 career digs and currently fifth on the Sage dig list.

For MCLA, junior middle hitter Brooke O'Rourke (Pieseco, NY/Johnstown) added seven kills with eight digs and a team-best seven points. Senior Margaret Allen (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport Senior) and sophomore Sara LaFreniere (Becket, MA/Wahconah) added four kills each, while Allen added two digs and two solo blocks. Rookie setter Natasha Stewart (North Andover, MA/North Andover) racked up 11 setting assists with eight digs for MCLA.

The Gators return to play on October 7 at Stevens with Nazareth College for an Empire 8 tri-match in Hoboken, NJ. MCLA returns to play on October 19 at Westfield State for a 7 p.m. match in MASCAC play.
