Troy, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's track and field team competed on Sunday at the Capital District Championship held at RPI. In the women's competition, the University at Albany won the team crown with a score of 241, while Sage finished in ninth place with a score of 19 in the field of 12 teams. 

For the second straight week, Sage's women's team had two members break a school record. This time is came at the hands of rookie Sevi Travis (Cohoes, NY/Shaker) as she broke the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase mark with her time of 13:25.46 to take fourth place. She bettered the mark set in 2016 by Sabrena Smith by almost 21 seconds (13:46.68). Right behind her with a time better than that of Smith was sophomore Amanda Jones (West Sand Lake, NY/Columbia) picking up fifth in 13:45.12.

Junior captain Sagan Leggett (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) broke another school record as well for the second straight meet. This time she penned her name to the women's 5,000 meter run with her time of 20:27.12 to take sixth place. She broke the mark set by Alaina Krueger in 2013 that stood at 20:44.00. Last week, she broke the school mark in the 3,000 meter run.

In the 100 meter hurdles, rookie Olivia Leonard (Waterford, NY/Waterford-Halfmoon) picked up a 13th place with a time of 19.85.  In the 400 meter hurdles, she finished in ninth in 1:21.08. Rookie Heather Dilcher (Colonie, NY/Colonie Central) finished in eighth in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:20.09.

In the 100 meter run, rookie Avian Pope (New York, NY/Manhattan Center for Science and Math) was the top finisher for the Gators as she posted a time of 13.91 to take 10th just ahead of rookie Naya Green (Brooklyn, NY/KIPP) who took 16th in 14.69 and junior Kadedra Allen (Troy, NY/Troy) who finished in 17.16 to take 19th place. In the 200 meter run, Pope was 13th in 29.39 and Green took 14th in 29.94.

Allen took 16th in the long jump with her mark of 2.69 meters and rookie Arianna Burns (Malden Bridge, NY/Tech Valley) finished in 26th in the shot put with a toss of 6.82 meters.

The Gators also took fourth in the women's 4 x 400 relay in 4:53.42 behind the work of Pope, rookie Tariziana Thompson (Brussels, BE/Brussels American), Travis,and Dilcher.

Next up for the team, they will compete on May 4-5 at the 2018 Empire 8 Championship which will take place at St. John Fisher College.
