ALBANY – Sage won their 6th Skyline match in a row Wednesday night against Purchase College 2-0.
Prior to the start of the game, seniors Rachel Ball (Waterford, NY/Catholic Central), Cassidy Bruen (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville), Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY/Milbrook), Taylor Lynch (Woodstock, NY/Saugerties), Savannah Mason (Wynantskill,NY/Averill Park), Shelby Ruppenthal (Albany, NY/Guilderland) and Shelby Sarraino (Watervliet, NY/Shaker) were honored for their service to the Sage women's soccer program.
After seven straight shots, Sage's (10-6, 6-1 Skyline) Joleen Marfone (Remsen, NY/Remsen) scored in the 28th minute off a Lynch cross.
The Gators continued to control possession in the second half with two shots from Marfone and Samantha Trimblett (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) in the 50th and 52nd minutes respectively. In the 60th minute, Maegan Villa (Rock Tavern, NY/Washingtonville) played a through ball to Marfone who flicked the pass on to Jordyn Logan (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) who was running in on the far post. Logan found the back of the net from five yards out and scored Sage's second and final goal of the night.
Sage's Cassy Robataille (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) (10-6) was credited with the win on a one save effort while Purchase's (4-8-2, 3-3-1 Skyline) Rachel Mizahi (4-8-2) picked up the loss with nine saves. Trimblett had a game-high five shots.
Robataille posted her seventh clean sheet of the year with the help of Koralus, Bruen, Ruppenthal, Madison Spohr (Ramstein, Germany/Ramstein), Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush), Keeley Paull (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) and Nicole Bauer (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) on the back line.
Marfone's assist propelled her into a tie for first place in single-season assists at Sage with 10.
Sage currently sits is second with Mount Saint Vincent with 18 points apiece. Topping the Skyline table is undefeated Farmingdale State with 21 points. Rounding out the top six are Mount Saint Mary, St. Joseph's – Long Island and Purchase with 15 points, 13 points and 10 points respectively.
The Gators travel to Farmingdale on Sat. Oct., 22 for a critical Skyline match. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
