ALBANY – Six different Gators scored Saturday afternoon in Sage's 7-0 win over the Bears of St. Joseph's – Brooklyn.
Less than three minutes into the game, sophomore Samantha Trimblett (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) scored Sage's (6-4, 2-1 Skyline) first goal on a Taylor Lynch (Woodstock, NY/Saugerties) through ball that was misplayed by the Bears defense. Less than nine minutes later, Lynch scored her sixth goal of the season on a misplayed ball from 12 yards out.
In the 23rd minute, freshman Giovanna Fichera (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) made the score 3-0 on a volley from seven yards out off a Cassidy Bruen (Baldwinsville, NY/ C.W. Baker) cross. Sage kept on the offensive, and sophomore Ariannah Logan (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) scored a pair of goals off assists from Kristen Silk (Greenville, NY/Greenville) and Joleen Marfone (Remsen, NY/Remsen). Marfone scored one more goal before halftime to make the score 6-0.
In the 60th minute, Sage's Maegan Villa (Rock Tavern, NY/Washingtonville) scored her first collegiate goal in from the top of the Bear's penalty box to score the Gator's seventh goal. A minute later, St. Joseph's (1-6) drew a foul right outside of the Gator penalty box. Christina Caruso took a bending shot, but Sage's Emma Augustine (Wawarsing, NY/Ellenville) came up with the save.
The Bear's last opportunity of the game came in the 65th minute when Christine Emigholz took the ball to the Sage by-line, but her cross was gobbled up by Augustine in the six yard box.
Kristen Candelaria (1-6) picked up the loss with an impressive 36 saves while Cassy Robataille (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) (6-4) was credited with the win. Robataille and Augustine recorded Sage's third shutout of the season with the help of Bruen, Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY/Millbrook), Nicole Bauer (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury), Keeley Paull (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh), Madison Spohr (Ramstein, Germany/Ramstein), Nicole Hume (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes), Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) and Shelby Ruppenthal (Albany, NY/Guilderland).
The Gators recorded 71 shots led by Trimblett with 18, Savannah Mason (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) with nine, Lynch with seven, Shelby Sarraino (Watervliet, NY/Shaker) with six, Logan with five, and Villa with five.
Sage currently sits in sixth in the Skyline with six points. Topping the table with 12 points are Farmingdale State and Mount Saint Vincent.
The Gators travel to Bard College Tues. Oct., 4 for a non-conference match. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
