Gators fall from Skyline Tournament; Season comes to a close in semifinals

Albany, NY–The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted the Rams of Farmingdale State  College on Thursday night in a semfinal match of the 2016 Skyline Conference Tournament. The Rams collected a 3-1 victory to advance to the 2016 Championship match after beating Sage, 25-22-25-21, 24-26, 25-14. FSC will now face the Mariners of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on November 5 at U.S.M.M.A. at 4 p.m. in the finals with the winner earning the Skyline's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Championship. FSC improves to 18-7 overall, while Sage's season ends at 17-18.

For the Gators, the team was paced by the performance on a number of different players. Senior Sara Campolieta's (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) connected for 14 kills with 19 digs, three aces and a block assist and led Sage with her 17.5 points in the action. She also had just two receiving errors in 17 attempts for a .895 receiving percentage. She closes her stellar career having produced her best numbers as a senior this fall. She led the Gators with her 303 kills and 368.5 points, while contributing 408 digs and 25 total blocks. She finishes her career with 558 kills (No. 13), while adding 933 digs (No. 18) with 122 aces (No. 13).

Senior outside Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) racked up eight kills with 2 digs and a block assist. On the season, she was second on the team with her 294 kills with an impressive .226 attack percentage. She also tallied 42 total blocks and 82 digs this year, elevating her career resume to include 964 kills (No. 6), 165 total block (No. 7) with 1,091 career points.

Senior setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) amassed 31 setting assists with 7 digs, and 3 aces in the semifinals. She finishes the year with her team-leading 957 setting assists, which ranks sixth best in school single-season records. On her career, she finishes as the No. 2 all-time setting assist leader with her 3,332 setting assists, while also adding 203 aces which stands fourth highest as well. She also connected for 613 digs in her 131 matches played.

Senior Devyn Morlock (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) added 4 digs in the contest with an ace after working in a career-best 86 sets this fall. She also had 139 digs this year to match her personal-best 19 aces.

Graduate player Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) added 5 digs with 2 kills and 2 setting assists in the match. She finished the 2016 with her personal-best numbers having racked up 86 kills with 46 aces and 282 digs. She amassed 92 career aces, 210 kills, and 572 digs in her time on the volleyball court.

Junior defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) had a 16 digs for the Gators in the contest, elevating her team-leading total to 436 digs. Just last week, she collected her 1,000th career dig and will bring 1,041 career digs into the 2017 campaign and is No. 14 on the program's career record book with 105 aces, which is 18th best.

Sophomore outside hitter Amelia Taylor (Ford Edward, NY/Fort Edward) had 5 kills with a dig and a block assist for Sage, while junior Alyssa Nellis(Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added 6 kills with 2 digs, an ace and a block assist. Nellis is now 10th all-time at Sage with 119 career total blocks.
