Volleyball splits results on final day of Fall Festival

Albany, NY–The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted a pair of teams in conjunction with Sage's Fall Festival Tournament on Saturday. Sage topped the College of New Rochelle, 3-2 (17-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-11), but fell in the final match to Skidmore, 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-23). The Gators are now 4-9 on the year.    

Against the Blue Angels of the College of New Rochelle, the Gators battled back from being down 2-0 to emerge with a 3-2 win. Sage was paced by the efforts of senior outside hitter and team tri-captain Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) as she had another double-double. She had a team-best 14 kills, while sporting a .375 attack percentage with 12 digs and three block assists. She also had a team-best 15.5 points in the action.

Junior middle hitter Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added six kills, while sophomore outside hitter Amelia Taylor (Fort Edward, NY/Fort Edward) picked up five kills and three digs. Sage's senior tri-captain, setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) tallied 30 setting assists with eight digs and four aces. Junior defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) connected for 12 digs and had just two receiving errors in 31 attempts for a .939 reception percentage. 

Senior outside hitter Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) added four kills in the action.

In the nightcap, Campolieta tallied 12 kills with nine digs against Skidmore. Berard and Nellis each added four kills apiece, as Berard led the team with her .375 attack percentage.  Liebig added 24 setting assists with five digs and and an ace. Graduate performer Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) led the Gators with her 11 digs, while adding two aces and a kill.

By day's end, Liebig had racked up her 2,741 career setting assist, ranking her No. 3 all-time at Sage, while her 173  career aces stand No. 8 all-time at Sage, just three shy of moving ahead of Tiffany Magnino (175, 1999-2002).

Berard who ranks in both career kills and blocks at Sage now has 730 career kills and stands No. 7 all-time, while her 132 career total blocks in No. 9 all-time. Schneiderman now has 798 career digs and looking to join Sage's Top 20 as well with her efforts in the coming week.

Sage is back in action on September 22 hosting SUNY-Cobleskill in a non-conference match in Kahl Gym at 7 p.m.
