Sage Softball Splits in Skyline Opener

FARMINGDALE, NY – Sage rallied in the second game to win 5-2 in their Skyline opener against Farmingdale St. Saturday afternoon. Farmingdale took the first game 5-4.

In Sage's (2-10, 1-1 Skyline) win, Farmingdale took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Aleysha Midgett scored on a Gator error.

Sage responded when Brittany Brooks (North Bangor, NY/Salmon River Central) scored on an Allison Ford (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) single to right field. The Gators took their first lead of the game when Alexa Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) scored on a Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa). Ford scored on the same play on an error to put Sage up 3-1. Rimawi crossed the plate on a Jessica Adams (Nassau, NY/Columbia) RBI to go up 4-1.

Farmingdale added a run in the top of the third when Sierra Cardenales scored on a Jessica Lombardo double to center field.

After three and half scoreless innings, Sage's Samantha Montague (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) added Sage's fifth and final run on a Ram's error.

Ford (2-4) picked up the5-2 win for Sage with three strikeouts while Jaxie Collard (1-6) got the loss for the Rams.

In the first game, Sage went up early when Rimawi scored an unearned run with two outs on the board. The Gators added a second run in the top of the second when Destiny Wierzbicki (Albany, NY/Troy) scored on a Silk single to right center.

The Rams responded in the bottom of the second when Lori Michaiowski scored on a Christina Rayfield double to left center. Rayfield tied up the game on a Kimberly Basile RBI to end the inning.

After two scoreless innings, Sage went up 3-2 when Adams scored on a Kiersten Duncan (Millerton, NY/Taconic Hills) sacrifice fly to left field in the top of the fifth. The Rams responded in the bottom of the inning when Cathleen Cassese and Christina Rayfield scored on a Jessica Lombardo single up the middle to go up 4-3.

The Rams added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth when Jenna Crawford scored on an Alexa Luna single up the middle.

Sage rallied to score a run in the top of the seventh on an unearned run by Rimawi to cut the lead down to 5-4, but it wasn't enough and the Rams went on to win.

Luna (3-1) was credited with the win while Ford picked up the loss with one strikeout.

Sage continues on the road tomorrow as they take on Yeshiva on the road at 6 p.m. followed by a second game.
