Marcy, NY–The Sage Colleges' women's and men's cross country teams were in action on Saturday competing in the first meet of the 2016 campaign. The Gators travelled to SUNY-Polytechnic to compete in the Wildcat Short Course Meet. Sage's women's team picked up an 8th place showing in a field of 12 teams, while the men's team was incomplete.

In the women's race, Oneonta State captured the team crown with a score of 21, while Sage tallied 207 and picked up eighth. Leading the way for the Gators was sophomore Shannon Farrell (Indian Lake, NY/Indian Lake Central) as she posted a time of 17:38 for the 4 k course and took home 13th. Next for Sage was rookie Amanda Jones (West Sand Lake, NY/Columbia) in 20th place with her time of 18:12.
Sophomore Rachael Pratt (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) finished in 46th in 20:07, while senior Lauren Belfast (Ilion, NY/Ilion) picked up 59th place in 21:47. Sophomore Julia Skoda (Philmont, NY/Taconic Hills) added a 69th place performance in 25:13 and senior Melissa Grimaldi (Nassau, NY/Columbia) rounded out Sage's competitors in 72nd place in 26:36.

For Sage's men's team, the Gators were led by junior Ian Alejandro (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) as he posted a time of 25:08.1 for the day and took home 123rd place. Sophomore Benjamin Hulett (Shaftbury, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) added a time of 37:59.0 and picked up 151st place on the race.
Sage returns to action on September 10 when they compete at the SUNY-Cobleskill Invitational with the women's race at 11 a.m. and the men's race to follow at 11:50 a.m.
