Women's tennis beats Purchase for 4th straight win and a shot at Skyline Tournament
The Gators took a 2-1 lead after doubles play into the singles action as graduate performer Melissa Estremera (Millbrook, NY/Millbrook) teamed with junior Shanessa Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) for the 8-3 win over Catherine Pasquale and Caroline Haldeman. The Sage duo is now 6-4 on the year with one another.
At third doubles, sophomore Emily Schultz (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) and her partner, junior Shanice Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) defeated Purchase's tandem of Abigail Cuddy and Cailey McKenna, 8-6.
Sage collected wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Leading the way at No. 1 singles was rookie Sammantha Montague (Glenville, NY/Glenville-Scotia) as she beat her opponent, Emma Yavel, 6-2, 7-5. Estremera posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles over Erika Fulton. At No. 4 singles rookie Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) beat Nastaja Stepec, 6-1, 6-4, while Shanice Mendoza bested Tara Persaud, 6-2, 6-3.
Sage is back in action again on October 22 for a non-conference match at Bard College, while awaiting the final seeds for the upcoming Skyline Conference tournament as other teams complete their league schedule.
