Gators fall at SUNY-Old Westbury

Old Westbury, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team travelled to face the Panthers of SUNY-Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon in a Skyline Conference match-up. The Panthers snapped Sage's seven-game win streak with a 75-62 win. Old Westbury improves to 14-3 overall and stands at 7-3 in the Skyline, while Sage drops to 13-6 overall and 9-3 in the league. Sage took a 17-9 lead into the second quarter before SUNY-Old Westbury held a 39-27 lead at the half. Despite a strong third quarter, the Gators were unable to post the key road win.

Sophomore guard Macie Holmes (Amsterdam, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) led the Gators in scoring with a season-best 17 points, two shy of tying her career best of 19 points. She added 12 points in the first stanza and added four baskets from three-point range.

Junior forward Genevieve Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) tallied her ninth double-double of the year after adding 10 points and a team-best 13 rebounds. She was held to just two points in the first half and came on strong in the second half for Sage. A 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District nominee, she now sports 19 career double-doubles. Schoff moved into the No. 7 spot on Sage's career scoring list with her 897 points. She moved past Susanne Booth (1994-1998, 889 points. She is also No. 5 in career rebounds with 579 rebounds and well as No. 2 in career blocks with 81.

Senior guard Frankie Pearson (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) also finished in double-digit scoring in the contest as she added 13 points with six rebounds and two assists. Pearson now has 952 career points and vaulted into the No. 5 position on Sage's career scoring list. She moved ahead of Sage's 2015 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Karen Harris (940 pts., 1991-1995) and is poised to become the fifth player in the program's history to attain 1,000 career points. She already holds Sage's career three-point field goal mark with her active standard of 173, while standing No. 3 in career games played (98), No. 9 in career assists (172), and No. 8 with 147 steals.

Sage is back in action on February 2 for a 6 p.m. road Skyline Conference with the Dolphins of the College of Mt. St. Vincent.
