Saratoga Springs, NY- The Skidmore College women's basketball team hosted the Gators of The Sage Colleges on Monday night in a non-conference match-up. After a close second half, the Thoroughbreds escaped with a 51-48 win to improve to 2-2 on the year, while Sage drops to 2-3.
Skidmore held a 25-17 lead at the half, before a strong outing from the Gators in the third and fourth quarters saw the game come down to the final play as the buzzer sounded. With 5:57 left in the fourth, sophomore guard Macie Holmes (Amsterdam, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) buried a three-pointer to give Sage a 43-42 lead. Skidmore answered right back as Kelly Donnelly hit a lay-up at 4:53 to give Skidmore the 44-43 lead.
Sage's sophomore Kaitlyn Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) fouled out with 1:09 left to play sending her to the bench after adding 12 points and six boards for the Gators. With :33 left to play, senior guard Frankie Pearson (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) buried a three-pointer and pulled Sage back to within one point, 49-48. Skidmore's Maya Bell hit two must make free throws with 0:02 left to play putting Skidmore up 51-48 before a running half court blast from sophomore Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) fell short as the clock expired.
For the game, Sage was paced by junior forward Genevieve Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) as she tallied a double-double on 18 points with 13 rebounds. She made 8-9 of her shots from the line on the night and now has Pearson added 12 points and Schoff connected for 11 points. She now has 713 career points at Sage and is 13th all-time in career scoring, while adding 440 career rebounds which is 8th best at Sage.
Sage travels to Mt. St. Mary College on December 1 for the team's 2016-2017 Skyline Conference opener with the Knights at 7 p.m.
