SAGE TOPPLES ACPHS 102-46 IN MEN'S BASKETBALL AS HEAD COACH BRIAN BARNES WINS 100TH CAREER GAME
Albany, NY—The Gators of The Sage Colleges travelled next door to take on the Panthers of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in men's basketball action on Wednesday night in the "Battle of New Scotland Avenue." Sage posted the convincing 102-46 victory, marking the 100th career win for Sage's head coach Brian Barnes. Sage is now 3-5 overall, while ACPHS drops to 2-6.
Now in his eighth season at Sage, Head Coach Brian Barnes is now 100-91 at the helm of the program and will collected his 100th career win on Wednesday night. Barnes earned his first career win against ACPHS on Nov. 20, 2009 as Sage topped the Panthers, 100-60.
The Gators held a commanding 42-21 lead at the break and never looked back as every single Sage player scored, including five different players that finished in double-digit scoring. Leading the way for the Gators was sophomore guard Darius Denmark (Orlando, FL/Evans) as he tallied 15 points, just ahead of the 14 points from junior guard Wayne Weir (Bronx, NY/Samuel Gompers). Senior Davon Sylvester (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Hayes), junior guard Jordan Devaughn (Jacksonville, FL/Flora McDonald Academy), and junior forward Stephen Paulk (West Palm Beach, FL/Palm Beach Lakes) all tallied 11 points as Sage combined to shoot 50.0% from the floor for the game (39-78), while holding a commanding 50-38 edge on the boards.
Senior co-captain Marcus Patterson (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) added a team-best six rebound with five points in 20 minutes of work.
Sage is back in action on December 10 travelling to SUNY-Cobleskill for a 1 p.m. non-conference contest with the Fighting Tigers.
