ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College picked up its first triumph of the spring this afternoon, upending visiting Castleton 12-10.
The Gators had four players register three or more points in the home win, the first career victory for RSC Head Coach Alyssa Treanor.
Sophomore attacker Grace Hines (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) (above) led the way with five goals, including the eventual game-winner. Junior attacker Caroline Musinski (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) and sophomore attacker Alexandra Queeney (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added three goals and an assist each, while sophomore midfielder Lailah Espinal (Mastic Beach, NY/William Floyd) dished out three assists.
Junior goalkeeper Madeline Butta (Millbrook, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) stopped nine Castleton shots to earn the win.
RSC (1-3) started strong, scoring four goals in an 8:28 span en route to a 6-4 advantage at the break. Musinski and Hines and netted two goals apiece during the opening 30 minutes.
The contest was back and forth after the intermission, as the squads tallied four ties across the final 19:45. With 7:04 left, Hines broke the final deadlock with her third goal of the second half. The Spartans had their chances to tie the Saturday matinee, including a shot that rang off the post with 1:32 remaining. Queeney completed her hat trick with less than a second left for the final margin.
Junior midfielder Lacey Greenamyre topped Castleton (0-3) with seven points on three goals and four assists. Sophomore midfielder Kimberly McCarthy fired six goals into the net, while senior goalkeeper Raven Payne recorded 12 saves.
Looking ahead, RSC hosts Manhattanville on Wednesday at 3:00 PM.
