Albany, NY –Russell Sage College's men's outdoor track and field team will compete on Friday-Saturday, May 6-7 at the 2022 Empire 8 Track Championship. This year's event will take place at Nazareth College's Stadium Complex.
Headlining the qualifiers for the event is the men's team captain, junior John Coddington (Amsterdam, NY/Broadalbin-Perth). He is the top seeded performer entering the championship with his mark of 46.36 meters in the hammer throw, a school record. He is also seeded second entering the weekend in the shot put with a school record performance of 14.79 meters. Also competing in the discus throw, he is seeded fifth with his school record performance of 39.95 meters. He competes on Friday afternoon in the hammer and on Saturday in the shot put and discus.
Junior Joe Degiorgio (Troy, NY/Troy) will compete in the 5,000 meter run and the 10,000 meter run. He holds the school record in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:30.88 and is seeded 15th prior to Saturday's race. He will run in the 10,000 meter run on Friday evening.
Senior Tyler Mitchell (Bronx, NY/All Hallows), who holds the school record in the long jump with a mark of 6.70 meters, is seeded third entering Friday's event. Senior Deshawn Fleary (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair) is seeded 14th entering the event after hitting a personal-best mark of 5.20 meters.
