NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Russell Sage College women's lacrosse was on the road on Wednesday evening at Mt. St. Mary College. The Gators (0-3) trailed 8-4 at the half and scored six second half goals, but it was not enough as they fell to the Knights, 14-10. MSMC moves to 5-1 with the victory and is now riding a four-match win streak after the performance.
The Gators got three goals each from sophomores Lalaih Espinal (Mastic Beach, NY/William Floyd) and Grace Hines (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland). Espinal tallied two of her three goals in the second half and a ground ball and a caused turnover. Sophomore Alexandra Queeney (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) also scored a goal in the match and led the team, winning 11 draw controls with three ground balls as well.
RSC got a single goal as well from rookie Aimee Rodriquez (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), sophomore Marissa Key (Cohoes, NY/Shaker), and junior Kyla Kruger (Kingston, NY/Kingston).
On the season, Queeney leads the Gators with her eight points on six goals with two assists that also go with her 22 draws, while Hines is second in the scoring race with six points on six goals.
Senior goalkeeper Madeline Butta (Millbrook, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) finished with five saves in taking the loss, while MSMC's Liz Petrellese and Mary Massaro each made four saves in leading their team to the win.
Looking ahead, RSC hosts Castleton on Saturday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m.
