MADISON, N.J. – Russell Sage College saw four players record six or more kills in tonight's 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 25-27, 25-19) loss at Drew University.
Senior middle hitter Andrew Samson (Queens, NY/Pathways) topped the Gators (4-10) with nine kills on .333 hitting.
Junior setter/opposite Elijah Tortorici (Clifton Park, NY/Mohonasen) and sophomore outside hitter Joseph Vice (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) each registered seven kills, while senior opposite Deshawn Fleary (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair) totaled six kills and 13 digs.
Setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Twp.), a graduate student, registered a double-double of 27 assists and 12 digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Omarf Ortega-Reyes and freshman outside hitter Jacob Sledz each tallied 20 kills to lead Drew (4-9).
Down 24-22 in the third set, the Gators used a 5-1 run to extend the non-conference match. RSC, which hit .367 as a team in the third stanza, forced the Rangers into four errors during the stretch.
Looking ahead, the Gators host SUNY Poly on Thursday at 7:00 pm.
Notes: Samson has registered at least six kills in four of the past five matches...He has totaled 30 kills on .275 hitting during the stretch...The Gators went almost 700 days without playing due to the COVID-19 pandemic…RSC is making its debut as an associate member of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) this season…League coaches picked the Gators to finish sixth in the NECC…The spring also marks the maiden voyage with Reid Hartl at the helm of the program…He took over as head coach in October 2021…Fleary and Jennings were the only two players that returned from the 2020 RSC team.
