Rochester, NY –Russell Sage College's men's outdoor track and field teams opened action on Friday at the 2022 Empire 8 Track Championship. This year's event is taking place at Nazareth College's Stadium Complex. A banner day saw a Sage first along the way!
RSC's junior John Coddington (Amsterdam, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) became the program's first Empire 8 Champion on Friday. Coddington won the hammer throw with a toss of 45.93 meters, scoring ten points along the way for the team.
He will compete on Saturday in a pair of events. He is seeded second entering the weekend in the shot put with a school record performance of 14.79 meters. Also competing in the discus throw, he is seeded fifth with his school record performance of 39.95 meters.
Senior Tyler Mitchell (Bronx, NY/All Hallows), who holds the school record in the long jump with a mark of 6.70 meters, finished in fifth place in the event with his performance of 6.63 meters.
Junior Joe Degiorgio (Troy, NY/Troy) competed in the 10,000 meter run and finished in 10th place with a time of 34:33.93.
