NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Russell Sage College dropped a pair of matches this afternoon at the SUNY New Paltz Invitational.
The Gators began the day by getting upended 3-2 by Mount St. Mary (19-25, 25-20, 25-27, 25-20, 7-15).
Senior outside hitter Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) and senior middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane) each recorded double-digit kills in the opener. Parkington registered 17 kills and nine digs, while Gagnon tallied 12 kills.
Sophomore right side Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) added her fourth-straight double-double with 36 assists, a career-high, and 16 digs. She was part of a trio of Gators that eclipsed double figures in digs against Mount Saint Mary. Junior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) (above) topped all participants with 31, while sophomore defensive specialist Rylie Gray (Bombay, NY/Salmon River Central) accumulated ten.
Junior outside hitter Grace Riddle led the Knights (4-2) with 24 kills on .273 hitting and 24 digs in the five-set win.
Parkington topped the Gators with 12 kills, while Moisidis had 19 digs. Walker dished out 21 assists across the four frames.
New Paltz (3-5), which hit .221 as a team, received at least five kills from seven players in the victory.
Looking ahead, Sage (1-6) is scheduled to visit SUNY Cobleskill on Tuesday night. The non-conference match is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
Notes: Parkington and Moisidis achieved a pair of career milestones against the Hawks...Parkington recorded her 500th career kill, while Moisidis registered her 500th career dig.
