ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College concluded its Empire 8 Conference four-game series with Keuka by splitting this afternoon's doubleheader at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. After falling 8-5 in the opener, the Gators (7-18/3-5 E8) earned the split of the day and the series with a 17-4 victory
Keuka (9-10-1/3-4-1 E8) started fast off of the bus, scoring three runs in the top of the first. After the Wolves added another tally in the top of the third, RSC got back into the game with three runs in the bottom half of the frame. Freshman infielder Christian Brown (Troy, NY/Troy) and freshman outfielder Leandro Guzman (New Britain, CT/New Britain) laced RBI hits in the rally.
The visitors quickly responded with two runs in the fourth to regain control.
Down 7-3, RSC put two runs across in the bottom of the sixth. Freshman infielder Andrew Knapp (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) plated freshman infielder Frank Colletta (Holtsville, NY/St. John The Baptist) with a pinch-hit single.
After the Wolves continued their trend of getting on the board in the first inning of the nightcap, RSC batted around in a six-run third. Knapp and Guzman each had RBI singles to help the Gators take the lead.
RSC tacked on four runs in the fourth. Catcher Dillon Maxon (Troy, NY/Tamarac), a grad student, (above) and freshman infielder Joseph Salerno III (White Plains, NY/White Plains) doubled in a teammate in the rally. The Gators put across seven runs in the sixth to end things early. Maxon homered to highlight the mercy-inducing outburst.
RSC had six players record multiple RBI on the day. Knapp finished the twin-bill 4-for-6 with three runs scored and three RBI, while Guzman was 3-for-6 with four RBI and three runs scored. Maxon was 2-for-7 with three RBI and three RBI.
Looking ahead, the Gators are scheduled to play an E8 doubleheader at Houghton on Thursday afternoon.
