DAVENPORT, FL – The Russell Sage College baseball team faced Lakeland University on Sunday in the second day of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Lakeland University (4-2) picked up the 13-3 victory. Lakeland took the night cap, 6-1.
Freshman outfielder Leandro Guzman (New Britain, CT/New Britain) went deep for the Gators and finished the game with a 1-3 effort at the plate to go with his two RBI's. Freshman outfielder Diego Jimenez (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury) had a double and was 1-3 at the plate for the Gators.
Rookie pitcher Griffin Snyder (Cheektowga, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) made the start working three innings with seven runs including five earned runs in his first collegiate contest. Rookie Liam Doyle (West Sayvile, NY/Connetquot) worked three innings in relief, fanning four with five earned four walks and six hits.
In the second game, Guzman was 3 for 4 with a run scored, while rookie Frank Colletta (Holtsville, NY/St. John the Baptist) was 3-4 at the plate for the Gators. Freshman infielder Andrew Knapp (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) drove in a run while going 2-for-4 in the action.
Looking ahead, RSC plays on March 8 against Husson University (ME) in a pair of seven innings games commencing at 3:45 p.m. at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
