Volleyball extends win streak to 5 matches with sweep of Dolphins

Riverdale, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team recorded a 3-0 win over the College of Mt. St. Vincent on Thursday evening in a Skyline Conference match. The win is the fifth in a row for the Gators and helps the team improve to 24-6 overall and 9-2 in the conference. CMSV falls to 6-19 overall and 3-8 in the Skyline.

As the Gators continue to rewrite the young program's record book, they have tied the mark for most conference wins in a season at 9, a feat they hit last year, while charting new waters with the team's record 24th win of the season, all under Coach Sandy Augstein-Collins.

Sage's junior outside Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) connected for nine kills with 10 digs and a pair of blocks in the action, while senior middle hitter Spencer Hilland (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem Central) had 13 digs with six kills.

Junior Connor Thompson (Delmar, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) posted seven kills with a dig and a block in the action, while senior setter Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) handed out 31 setting assists in the match with five digs, two aces and a kill. The Skyline Conference Co-Player of the Week, Ray now has 2,558 setting assists and is poised to hit the 1,000 setting assist plateau this coming weekend as he now has a team-best 997 setting assists this season, a personal-best for the program's first four-year performer.

Sophomore outside Andy Fishman (Cornwallville, NY/ Cairo-Durham) added five kills with one dig as the Gators swept the Dolphins this season with a pair of 3-0 wins.

Thursday's contest featured eight ties and three lead changes, with six of the ties coming in the opening set. Sage went on to hit .222 in the first set and took advantage of nine Mount Saint Vincent attack errors to pull in front 1-0.

For the match, Mount Saint Vincent committed 23 errors to just 17 kills and Sage hit .266 as a team and closed the night with 36 winners against 15 miscues.

Holiday led the Dolphins with six winners and also added two digs and a block. Gerard Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) turned in a strong night with four kills and five total blocks. Cedric Ellison (Worcester, Mass.), James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) all recorded two kills for the Mount.

DiGiovanni closed the match with 15 assists for Mount Saint Vincent to go along with six digs and a pair of blocks. Tyler Egan (Laurel Springs, N.J.) led the team with 11 digs and added a kill.

Krowicki finished with a .533 hitting percentage. He also added 10 digs and a pair of blocks. Thompson added seven winners and hit .600.

Overall, Sage held the edge in kills 36-17and in digs 38-26. The Gators also posted a 9-7 advantage in total team blocks.

Sage returns to action on Saturday, April 6 for a pair of matches at Purchase College facing both Purchase College and Ramapo College on Saturday in contests at 10 a.m. and noon.
