Sage victorious on opening night; Gators beat Bard 3-0

Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team opened the 2013 season on Wednesday evening hosting the Raptors of Bard College in a non-conference match in the Kahl Gym. The contest was the season opener for both teams. The Gators posted the 3-0 win (25-12, 25-18, 25-15) and improve to 1-0, while Bard falls to 0-1. The evening marked the debut as interim men's head coach of Sandy Augstein-Collins.

Sage's sophomore outside hitter Andy Fishman (Cornwallville, NY/Cairo-Durham) racked up a team-best 17 kills in his Gator debut, while adding five digs and seven aces. Junior outside hitter Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) had 10 kills with nine digs and was perfect with no errors in his 20 receptions for a 1.000% reception performance.

Junior libero Cory Gransbury (Round Top, NY/Cairo-Durham) had 10 digs and was also perfect with no errors in nine receptions. Senior setter Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had a team-leading 33 setting assists for Sage, while adding four digs.

For Bard, sophomore outside hitter Billy Williams (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) and freshman back Zack Nussdorf (Manhattan, NY/Columbia Grammar and Prep) each had four kills.  Rookie Daniel Gagne (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) had six digs for the Raptors.  Junior setter Henry Kasiske (Los Angeles, CA/Winward School) had 14 setting assists with five digs on the evening

Sage returns to action on Friday and Saturday, January 25 and 26 at the SUNY-IT Tournament. The Gators will face Wells College at 4 p.m. and D'Youville College at 8 p.m. to open play on Friday night. Bard is back in action also on Friday and Saturday at the SUNY-IT Tournament opening play on Friday facing Elms College at 4 p.m. and Hilbert College at 8 p.m.
