Ray surpasses 2,000 setting assists as Gators top Berkeley, 3-0

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team opened competition on Friday night at the Raptor Invitational at Bard College. The Gators posted an easy 25-8, 25-9, 25-9 win over Berkeley College (NJ). The team has extended its win streak to three matches and are now 11-2 on the season.

Sophomore outside Andy Fishman (Cornwallville, NY/Cairo-Durham) led the team with his 10 kills and six aces and four digs. He leads the country in aces in Division III with his impressive 1.5 aces per set average.  He has 52 aces on the season, which leads both Sage and the Skyline Conference. His six aces ranks No. 2 in single set records for the four-year old program.  He already laid claim to the Sage single-season ace mark, which was set last year at 33 by junior opposite Scott Fitzgerald (Fort Edwards, NY/Queensbury).  Fishman's next record he has his eyes set on is the career record, which is held by another current Sage team member, senior setter Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) with is at 83.

Fitzgerald added five kills with a pair of digs, while Ray who is this week's Skyline Conference Co-Player of the Week, added eight digs with 22 setting assists. With his performance on Friday, he surpassed the 2,000 career setting assist plateau as he now has 2,019 and leads the program in the category. Ray ranks 10th in Division III with his 9.55 setting assists per set thus far on the season with the release of the first NCAA Division III statistics.

Gator junior outside Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) contributed nine kills with a team-best 12 digs. He added five aces as well to help the Gators combine for 15 aces in the action, while also committing just two reception errors on the night with a .443 attack percentage as well.

The Gators are back in action at the Bard College Raptors Invitational on Saturday facing Keuka College at 11 a.m. and the College of Mt. St. Vincent at 1 p.m.
