Gators Top SVC 3-0 for 6th straight win

Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team hosted the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont College on Wednesday evening in the Kahl Gym in a non-conference match. The Gators tallied a 3-0 win (25-16, 25-23, 25-21) and have extended their win streak to six matches. Sage is now 8-1 overall, while SVC drops to 2-5.

Sage took the opening set 25-16, while the second set was a battle with handful of ties, the last coming at 22-22 before the Gators took the set, 25-23. In the final set, the Mountaineers took an early lead before the Gators rallied. The hard fought third set was last tied at 20-20 before Sage took the lead for good and tallied a win in the final set.

Sage's junior opposite Scott Fitzgerald (Fort Edwards, NY/Queensbury) contributed 12 kills for the Gators with an ace and 11 digs. He finished with a .647 hitting percentage in the match. Senior middle hitter Spencer Hilland (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem Central) paced Sage with his 11 kills, while junior outside Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) also had 11 kills. Krowicki had nine digs with a perfect reception percentage as he had no errors in 11 attempts.

Sage's sophomore outside Andy Fishman (Cornwallville, NY/ Cairo-Durham) added six aces with eight kills and a solo shot. The three-time Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, he now has a team-best 41 aces on the season. Senior setter Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) dished out 41 setting assists with five digs.

For the Mountaineers, sophomore middle Joey Dighton (Riverside, CA/La Sierra) added eight kills with a .636 hitting percentage in the action. He had two aces as well for SVC. Freshman middle Caleb Odom (Redlands, CA/Citrus Valley) and junior outside hitter Anthony Barahona (Las Vegas, NV/Eagle Rock) each added six kills, while sophomore outside Keven Walley (Pico Rivera, CA/El Rancho) and rookie Naphat Suvaroporn (Los Angleos, CA/Eagle Rock) each had five digs.

The Gators will return to action on February 16 travelling to Kean University for a Skyline Conference tri-match with the host Cougars and the Dolphins of the College of Mt. St. Vincent as matches will take place at noon and 2 p.m. SVC is back in action on February 16 for a tri-match at Regis College with Mt. Ida. Those matches will take place at 1 and 3 p.m.
