Sage finishes strong at SUNY-IT Tournament with two wins

Marcy, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team wrapped competition on Saturday at the SUNY-IT Wildcat Invitational. In the Gators' first match Saturday, they beat SUNY-IT, 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-6, 25-18). In the final contest, the Gators topped Hilbert College, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-16). The Gators are now 4-1 on the year.

 

Against SUNY-IT, Sage's senior middle hitter Spencer Hilland (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem Central) had 12 kills, while junior Scott Fitzgerald (Fort Edwards, NY/Queensbury) had nine kills. Junior outside hitter Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) had 10 kills. Senior middle hitter Ryan Kramer (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) and junior middle hitter Connor Thompson (Delmar, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) each had seven kills.

 

Senior setter Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had a team-leading 37 setting assists, while junior libero Cory Gransbury (Round Top, NY/Cairo-Durham) had 12 digs in the match.

 

Against Hilbert, the Gators were paced by 12 kills apiece from both Krowicki and Hilland. Hilland had a double-double with his 11 digs for the Gators. Ray chipped in with 37 setting assists, while Thompson added seven kills.

 

The Gators will open Skyline Conference play on February 2 when they face both NYU-Poly and New Jersey City in a tri-match at NJCU. Action commences on Saturday at noon. The Gators were picked fourth in the 2013 Skyline Conference Coaches' Pre-season poll, while defending league champions Kean University were picked first.
