Gators roll past competition on Sunday to rack up two conference wins

Brooklyn, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team knocked off a pair of Skyline Conference opponents in Sunday in a tri-match held at Yeshiva University. Sage beat Yeshiva 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-12) and then knocked off NYU-Poly also 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-10). The Gators improve 16-3 overall and 8-2 in the Skyline Conference.

Against Yeshiva, Sage had a .400 hitting percentage in the match, while also collecting eight aces and held Yeshiva to a -.189 hitting percentage in the action.  Leading the way for the Gators were senior middle hitter Spencer Hilland (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem Central) and junior outside Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) as they each had seven kills.  Krowicki added three aces for Sage to lead the Gators in the category.

Sage's sophomore outside Andy Fishman (Cornwallville, NY/ Cairo-Durham) tallied six kills, while junior middle hitter Connor Thompson (Delmar, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) also had six kills.   Rookie setter Matthew DeGeyter (Hudson, NY/Hawthorne Valley) connected for 17 setting assists, while junior outside hitter Justin Pruiksma (Athens, NY/Coxsackie-Athens) added five kills with five digs.

Against the Jays of NYU-Poly, the Gators got 11 kills from junior right side Scott Fitzgerald (Fort Edward, NY/Queensbury), followed by nine kills from Krowicki, who also had eight digs. Both Fishman and Hilland also added eight kills. Fishman led the team with his four aces and now has team-best 62 aces, an active Sage single-season record.

Senior setter Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) added 39 setting assists with four digs. Hilland and junior setter Cory Gransbury (Round Top, NY/Cairo-Durham) each connected on a pair of aces as Sage combined for nine aces in the match.

Sage is back in action on March 9-10 at the Endicott College Spring Fling. Sage faces No. 14 ranked Rivier College on March 9 at 2 p.m. and Johnson and Wales at 4 p.m.
