Sage splits results on opening day of Wildcat Invitational

Marcy, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team opened competition on Friday at the SUNY-IT Wildcat Invitational. In the Gators' first match they beat Wells College, 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-15). In the nightcap, D'Youville College topped Sage, 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 20-25, 27-25, 15-12). Sage stands at 2-1 on the young season and will wrap play on Saturday in the two-day tournament.

Against Wells, Sage's sophomore outside hitter Andy Fishman (Cornwallville, NY/Cairo-Durham) racked up a team-best 18 kills with eight digs and four aces. Junior outside hitter Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) had nine kills with seven digs and three block assists. Junior libero Cory Gransbury (Round Top, NY/Cairo-Durham) had nine digs in the match, while senior setter Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had a team-leading 27 setting assists with three digs.

In the second match of the day against D'Youville, Krowicki had 20 kills, while Fishman connected for 19 kills with 12 digs. Ray handed out 50 setting assists, while senior Spencer Hilland (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem Central) had 13 kills. Junior Scott Fitzgerald (Fort Edwards, NY/Queensbury) also had a double-double with his 10 kills and 10 digs.
