Sage falls twice on opening day at Nazareth Tournament

 

Rochester, NY--The Sage Colleges women’s volleyball team competed on Friday evening at the Golden Flyer Invitational at Nazareth College. Sage faced No. 19 ranked New York University in the first match of the tournament (3-0) and then dropped a 3-0 decision to the No. 2 ranked team in Division III, Juniata College.  

Against NYU, the Gators dropped the match by a score of 25-9, 25-3, 25-11. Senior Cheryce Harvey (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) added three digs with two kills, while junior libero Kelsey Wilson (Schenectady, NY/Bishop Gibbins)added seven digs for the match. 

In the second match of the eight-team tournament, Sage faced the 2009 NCAA Division III National Runner-up, Juniata. Juniata triumphed 25-16, 25-14, 25-9 putting Sage at 0-5 on the fall.

Senior middle hitter Nicole Corbett (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) added four kills with one block, while Wilson added four digs. Harvey contributed five digs with a kill, while sophomore Kelsey Newberg (New Britain, CT/New Britain) chipped in with five digs.

Sage’s will wrap their tournament action on Saturday facing Fredonia State at noon and an opponent to be determined at 2 p.m. 

The Gators will host SUNY-New Paltz on Wednesday, September 15 in the Neff Athletic Center at 7 p.m. in the first home match of the year. Sage will be giving away 25 free Sage athletic T-shirts to the first 25 Sage students in attendance with a Sage ID!
