Gators fall twice in Skyline Women's Volleyball Action

Patchogue, NY---- The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team traveled to St. Joseph's College on Saturday for a Skyline Conference tri-match with Farmingdale State. Sage fell in the first match to St. Joseph's, 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 25-23). In the following match, the Gators dropped a 3-1 decision to Farmingdale (26-24, 9-25, 25-22, 25-20). Sage now stands at 2-14 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Against St. Joseph's, rookie Gina Cerutti (Scotia, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) added six digs with three kills and played extremely well for the Gators. Junior Kelsey Wilson (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) added 22 digs.

Sage's senior middle hitter middle hitter Nicole Corbett (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) racked up six kills with three blocks. Rookie setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 14 settings assists with seven digs and three kills.

Against the Rams of Farmingdale State, Corbett added 11 kills with three blocks. She now has 416 career blocks and moving ever closer to the career record of 438 held by Alison Archambault (2000-2003).

Senior middle hitter Michelle DeNisco (New Hampton, NY/Goshen) racked up eight kills with three blocks and a pair of aces. Wilson chipped in with 16 digs, while Cerutti added 11 digs with six kills. Cooney had 23 setting assists with eight digs.

The Gators will be in action on Wednesday, September 29 travelling to Bard College for a Skyline Conference match starting at 7 p.m.
