Gators triumph in Skyline Volleyball action over Purchase

 

Albany, NY---- The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team hosted Skyline Conference opponent, Purchase College on Friday night in the Kahl Center. Sage tallied the 3-1 win after dropping the first set. Sage improves to 4-17 overall and 3-5 in the Skyline Conference, while Purchase falls to 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the league.

Purchase won the first set 26-24. Sage tied the action at 1-1 after winning the second set, 25-23 and took a 2-1 lead after winning the third set, 25-10. Sage captured the match with a 25-17 win in the fourth set after a Panther rally fell short.

Senior Cheryce Harvey (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) added 17 digs with three kills for the Gators, while freshman setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) connected for 28 setting assists with 17 digs and six service aces. Junior Kelsey Wilson (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) tallied 16 digs on the night with six service aces. Senior Michelle DeNisco (New Hampton, NY/Goshen) tallied nine kills with three aces. Junior Jennifer Ahearn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) added 10 kills for the Gators.

For the Panthers, junior Rebecca Dittler (Elmira Heights, NY/Thomas A. Edison) added six kills with two setting assists, 16 digs and six blocks. Senior outside hitter Erika Stahl (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) had five kills with 11 digs and an ace, while senior Michelle Fetky (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) added seven digs with five aces.

The Gators will be in action on Saturday, October 16 hosting a quad match in the Kahl Center. Sage will face Skidmore College at 11:30 a.m. and SUNY-Potsdam will also face William Paterson University. At 1:30 p.m. Sage and William Paterson will square off, while Skidmore and Potsdam will meet on the second court. Purchase returns to action on October 20 hosting Bard at 7 p.m. in a Skyline Conference match.
