Sage delivers for Seniors with win over Utica, 3-0

Troy, NY---- The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team hosted Utica College in a non-conference match on Wednesday night in the Neff Athletic Center. Sage posted a 3-0 win (25-19, 25-15, 25-14) to improve to 7-20 overall, while the Pioneers drop to 1-27.

Prior to the start of the match seniors from both teams were recognized. Utica's senior co-captain Heather Jackson (Latham, NY/John Stark Regional) was saluted for her efforts as a team co-captain and four-year letter winner with Utica. Sage recognized senior middle hitters Nicole Corbett (Greenbush, NY/Columbia), Michelle DeNisco (New Hampton, NY/New Hampton), senior outside hitter Cheryce Harvey (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor). The Gator trio has combined to help lead Sage to two NCAA Tournament appearances (2007 and 2008), two Skyline Conference Championships (2007 and 2008) and the league's runner-up title in 2009. With the 2010 tournament bid on their resume, Sage will open action in the league's tournament and a shot at the program's third NCAA Tournament bid on Wednesday, November 3 at SUNY-Old Westbury.

For the Gators, Corbett led the way with her nine kills, while DeNisco added two kills with three block assists. Harvey connected for four kills with nine digs and a service aces.

Freshman setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) connected for 19 setting assists with three aces and nine digs. Junior Jennifer Ahearn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) tallied three kills and two digs.

For Utica Jackson had two aces with eight digs, while freshman hitter Rachel Pratt-Smith (Harpursville, NY/Harpursville) added three kills with three serving aces with eight digs and an assist. Junior Aundrea Dorie (Mount Markham, NY/Mt. Markham) racked five digs and five kills with a block. Rookie setter Leah Kazalski (Greene, NY/Greene) added six serving assists with a kill, a dig, and a service ace.
