Sage hosts Skyline Quad Match on Saturday; Gators fall twice

Albany, NY---- The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team hosted a Skyline Conference Quad Match on Saturday in the Kahl Center on Saturday. Sage hosted Bard College, SUNY-Old Westbury, NYU-Poly. Old-Westbury and NYU-Poly both went 2-0 on the day.

Sage dropped a 3-0 decision to NYU-Poly (25-12, 25-16, 25-16) and SUNY-Old Westbury, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-16). NYU-Poly defeated Bard 3-0 ( 25-23, 25-16, 25-13) and Old Westbury topped Bard, 3-0. (25-13, 25-17, 25-22).

Sage is now 3-17 overall and 2-5 in the Skyline. Bard drops to 6-10 overall and 0-6 in the Skyline Conference. NYU-Poly improves to 13-11 overall and 5-1 in the league, while Old Westbury is now 16-5 overall and 3-1 in conference action.

On the day, Sage's senior middle hitter middle hitter Nicole Corbett (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) racked up 16 kills with four blocks. She now has 426 career blocks and moving ever closer to the career record of 438 held by Alison Archambault (2000-2003).

Senior Cheryce Harvey (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) added 18 digs with four kills for the Gators, while freshman setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) connected for 34 setting assists with seven kills and nine digs. Freshman hitter Gina Cerutti (Scotia, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) added 10 digs on the afternoon for the Gators. Junior Kelsey Wilson (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) tallied 26 digs on the day.

For Old Westbury, junior outside hitter Ashley Greene (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) has 23 kills with four blocks and three service aces. Junior Kristina Giordano (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) added 17 digs with 41 setting assists and six service aces.

Bard's junior setter Jessica Philpott (Hot Springs, VA/Bath Country) added three kills with four digs and 11 setting assists against Old Westbury, while senior Iga Mrozek (New Orleans, LA/Ben Franklin) added nine kills with five digs and an ace in the match against NYU-Poly.

NYU-Poly's junior middle blocker Victoria Kalvert (Missouri City, TX/Elkins) had 18 kills in the pair of matches with four blocks. Sophomore setter Nicole Breitbart (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) connected on 16 setting assists against Sage with four service aces. Against Bard she added 12 digs.

The Gators will be in action on Wednesday, October 15 hosting Purchase College in a Skyline Conference match in the Kahl Campus Center in Albany with a 7 p.m. start.
