Sage opens Skyline action with 3-2 win over Dolphins

Riverdale, NY---- The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team traveled to the College of Mt. St. Vincent for their Skyline Conference opener on Friday night. Sage needed five sets, but tallied the 3-2 win to earn the first win in league play. Sage is now 2-12 overall and 1-0 in the Skyline Conference. MSVC drops to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Senior got a double-double from middle hitter Michelle DeNisco (New Hampton, NY/Goshen) as she paced the team with her 12 kills , 11 digs and two service aces.

Sage's senior middle hitter middle hitter Nicole Corbett (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) racked up eight kills to join Sage's 1000 career kills club as she now has 1,003 kills. She is fourth on Sage's career kills list and added five blocks on the night, elevating her career totals to 410, just 28 shy of tying the career block mark currently held by Alison Archambault (2000-2003, 438).

Rookie setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 32 settings assists with three kills and an ace and 27 digs. Junior Kelsey Wilson Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) exploded for 32 digs while junior outside hitter Jennifer Ahearn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) added eight kills and eight digs. as well on the night. Senior middle hitter Michelle DeNisco (New Hampton, NY/Goshen) added six kills with four digs and a pair of blocks, while junior Jennifer Ahearn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) racked up 19 digs.

The Gators will be in action on Saturday, September 25 travelling to St. Joseph's College for a Skyline Conference tri-match with Farmingdale State. Action starts at 1 p.m. for the Gators.
