Troy, NY---- The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team hosted the Golden Bears of Western New England College in Tuesday evening in a non-conference match in the Neff Athletic Center. WNEC tallied the 3-1 victory to improve to 5-8 overall, while Sage drops to 1-12.
The Golden Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead taking sets one and two, 25-15 and 25-13, respectively. Sage won the third set 25-23 before the Golden Bears sealed the win with their 25-12 win in the fourth set.
WNEC'S senior middle back Lauren Landri (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) led the squad on the night with her 13 kills and five total blocks. Senior setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL/Stevenson) added 42 setting assists with four blocks and three aces. Senior libero Marci Egbert (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) added 17 digs with three serving aces and now has 148 digs on the season.
Sage's senior middle hitter middle hitter Nicole Corbett (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) tallied seven kills with a pair of blocks for the Gators, while rookie setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 18 assists with four kills and an ace. Junior outside hitter Jennifer Ahearn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) added six kills and six digs as well on the night. Senior middle hitter Michelle DeNisco (New Hampton, NY/Goshen) added six kills with four digs and a pair of blocks, while junior Jennifer Ahearn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) racked up 19 digs.
The Gators will be in action on Friday, September 24 travelling to the College of Mt. Saint Vincent for the 2010 Skyline Conference opener in a 7 p.m. match. WNEC's is back in action on September 25 for a tri-match at Babson College, commencing at noon.
