Corbett earns All-Tournament selection as Gators go 1-1 on Saturday

 

 

 

Schenectady, NY---- The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team travelled to nearby Union College to compete in the Union College Invitational on Saturday and finished the day going 1-1. Sage's senior middle hitter middle hitter Nicole Corbett (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) was named to the All-Tournament Team for her play on the weekend.

On Saturday, Sage opened play with a 3-0 win over the Elms College (25-20, 25-19, 27-25), but dropped the nightcap to Skidmore College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-19). Sage is now 1-11 on the season.

In the win over Elms, Sage rookie setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 17 assists with six digs and six kills. Corbetttallied eight with four blocks. Junior outside hitter Jennifer Ahearn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) added five kills with three digs to pace the Gators in the morning.

Against the Thoroughbreds, Sage's Ahearn chipped in with six kills and a pair of aces. Corbett added seven kills with three blocks, while senior middle hitter Michelle DeNisco (New Hampton, NY/Goshen) added five kills. Cooney wrapped the day with 18 assists, seven digs and four kills.

The Gators will be in action on Tuesday, September 28 hosting Western New England College in a 7 p.m. non-conference match in the Neff Athletic Center.
