Late match rally not enough as Gators fall to Knights

 

Troy, NY---- The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team hosted the Knights of Mt. St. Mary College in the Neff Athletic Center on Wednesday night. The Knights posted the 3-0 win to remain unbeaten in Skyline Conference action as they are now 5-0 and improve to 11-7 overall. Sage drops to 3-15 overall and 2-3 in the league. The scores on the night were 25-17, 25-17, 29-27.

MSMC's senior Elizabeth Douress (Rahway, NJ/Union Catholic) became the program's all-time career block leader with her performance on Wednesday as she added two blocks assists and surpassed the career record as she now has 194 blocks. She added five kills with four setting assists. The Knights junior setter Jacqueline Nadeau (Uniondale, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) led her team with 11 kills and nine digs. Junior libero (Keather Schaeffer (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) added 14 digs, while sophomore setter Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) added a match-high 34 setting assists.

Sage's senior middle hitter middle hitter Nicole Corbett (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) racked up eight kills with four blocks. She now has 422 career blocks and moving ever closer to the career record of 438 held by Alison Archambault (2000-2003).

Senior Cheryce Harvey (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) added 15 digs with a kill for the Gators, while freshman setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 18 setting assists with nine digs and a pair of service aces. Freshman hitter Gina Cerutti (Scotia, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) added six kills with eight digs for the Gators.

The Gators will be in action on Wednesday, October 9 hosting at Skyline Conference quad-match with SUNY-Old Westbury, Bard, and NYU-Poly. Action commences at noon in the Kahl Campus Center in Albany.
