Troy, NY-- The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team hosted the Hawks of SUNY-New Paltz on Wednesday evening in the NeffNeff Athletic Center in the team's 2010 home opener. SUNY-Paltz tallied a 3-0 win to improve to 6-4 overall and the Gators fall to 0-8.
The Hawks won the first set 25-7 and took the second and third sets, 25-13, and 25-17, respectively.
New Paltz was led on the evening by the play of freshman setter Marissa King (Canandaigua, NY/ Canandaigua Academy) with 14 assists, while sophomore outside hitter Kelly Lavender (Apalachin, NY/Oswego Free Academy) added seven kills. Rookie libero Carrie Hack (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) added seven digs, while senior middle hitter Dana Kindelmann (Nesconset, NY/Sachem North) added three blocks for the Hawks.
For the Sage Gators, senior middle hitter middle hitter Nicole Corbett (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) tallied four kills with three blocks. Junior outside hitter Jennifer Ahearn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) added four kills with two serving aces. Rookie setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 17 assists with a pair of digs.
The Gators will be in action on Friday and Saturday, September 17 and 18 at the Union College Tournament.
SUNY-New Paltz hosts a tri-match on September 17 with SUNY-Fredonia and Johnson and Wales University.
