Gators racks up two key victories on Sunday

Annandale of the Hudson, NY---- The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team travelled to Bard College for a Skyline Conference quad match. Sage tallied a pair of wins beating both Yeshiva University and Maritime College, 3-0 on the day.

For the year, Sage improves to 6-20 overall and is now 5-5 in the conference after beating Yeshiva (3-0: 25-11, 25-14, 25-16) and Maritime (3-0: 25-7, 25-9, 25-9).

Against Yeshiva, the Gators got nine kills from senior middle hitter Nicole Corbett (Greenbush, NY/Columbia), while senior hitter Michelle DeNisco (New Hampton, NY/New Hampton) added five kills and a solo block. Freshman setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) connected for 20 setting assists with an ace, while junior Jennifer Ahearn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) tallied four kills and three digs.

In the second match for the Gators, Cooney racked up 21 setting assists with another ace and four digs. Corbett tallied eight kills with four solo blocks. Sage's career block leader, Corbett has 444 blocks and now has 1,099 career kills, which is fourth best at Sage. Freshman Gina Cerutti (Scotia, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) connected for six kills with five blocks, three setting assists and an ace to help the team to the important win.

Sage returns to action on Wednesday, October 27 hosting Utica College in the Neff Athletic Center. The match starts at 7 p.m. and the Gators will honor their 2010 seniors prior to the match, Corbett, DeNisco and Cheryce Harvey (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor).
