Gators thrill crowd on Faculty Appreciation Day as they win two more; Win streak grows to 18

Troy, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted the Dolphins of the College of Mt. St. Vincent and the Golden Eagles of  St. Joseph's College (LI) in a Skyline Conference tri-match at the Neff Center. Sage posted two wins and in the process have extended their win streaks both overall and in the league. Sage has win 18 consecutive matches and owns a 21-4 overall record, while standing at 7-0 in the league and riding a conference win streak that is now at 20 wins. Sage's last conference loss was on October 3, 2012. The last league setback came on that date to Mt. St. Mary College, 3-1.

Sage's senior tri-captain Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added 13 kills with seven digs to pace the Gators in the win over CMSV, 25-13, 25-23, 25-21.  Senior Rachel Martin (Troy, NY/Troy) connected for nine kills with two block assists. Sophomore outside hitter Siena Wilder (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) racked up four aces and 12 digs.

Sophomore setter and team tri-captain Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) led the Gators with her 26 setting assists and added a kill with four digs.

Against the Golden Eagles in a rematch of the 2013 Skyline Conference championship match, the match once again went five sets, just as in the finals. This time, Sage posted the win 25-10, 25-20, 24-26, 24-26, 15-7 and avenged their 2013 title run setback.

Putriment racked up an impressive 14 kills and added 16 digs, while Martin had 15 kills with an ace and two digs.

Wilder currently leads Division III in aces and now has 85 aces on the year and is climbing the single-season record book at Sage as she is now tied for the No. 4 spot on the list after she had four in the nightcap.

Liebig connected for 40 setting assists and three digs with an ace as the Gators had 10 in the match and also got five blocks from Martin as she had three solo blocks with two block assists. Martin now has 44 blocks on the season, while Putriment leads Sage with 287.5 points on 251 kills and 293 digs.

Putriment has 1,295 career kills and is No. 2 at Sage behind 1,411 tallied by Caitlin (CJ) Ostrowski during her career (2004-2006) as a Gator.  She also has 1,622 career digs and is closing on the No. 3 spot held by Kelsey Wilson (1,669, 2008-2011).

Sage returns to action on October 25 hosting the Purchase College and Mt. St. Mary College in a Skyline Conference tri-match that will take place at the Kahl Gym with the day opening play at 10 a.m. The day will commence with a Senior Day ceremony honoring the Gators four seniors on Saturday.
