Gators roll past Skyline Opponents on Saturday besting both SLC and SUNY-Old Westbury

Westbury, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team travelled to SUY-Old Westbury on Saturday for a Skyline Conference tri-match with the host Panthers and Sarah Lawrence College. Sage posted a convincing 3-0 win over SLC, (2-5, 12, 25-5, 25-2) and then beat Old Westbury, 3-0 (25-10, 25-7, 25-6). With their two wins on Saturday, Sage improves to 19-4 overall and 5-0 in the conference. The Gators have extended their overall win streak to 16 games, while also lifting the team's conference win streak to 18. Sage's last conference loss was on October 3, 2012. The last league setback came on that date to Mt. St. Mary College, 3-1.

Against the Gryphons, Sage combined for a .520 team attack percentage as well as 26 aces in posting the easy victory. Sage's senior tri-captain Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added eight kills with nine digs and six aces. Putriment had a .455 attack percentage in the match for the Gators.

Senior Rachel Martin (Troy, NY/Troy) connected for eight kills with three digs and two aces, while sophomore outside hitter Siena Wilder (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) racked up seven aces and three digs.

Sophomore setter and team tri-captain Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) led the Gators with her 22 setting assists and added two kills with a team-best eight aces in the action.

Against the Panthers, Sage's Putriment tallied nine kills with four aces, eight digs and two solo blocks, while Liebig tallied 24 setting assists with two aces. Martin added a .727 attack percentage with eight kills and three digs. Wilder currently leads Division III in aces and now has 77 aces on the year and is climbing the single-season record book at Sage as she is now ranked No. 5 after moving ahead of Alison Archambault on Saturday (76, 2002). 

Sage returns to action on October 18 hosting the College of Mt. St. Vincent and St. Joseph's College (LI) in a Skyline Conference tri-match that will take place at the Neff Center. Sage will open play with CMSV at 11 p.m. and then SJC and CMSV will play at 1 p.m. The day wraps with Sage hosting St. Joseph's, the defending Skyline Conference champions at 3 p.m. in conjunction with Sage's Faculty Appreciation Day at the Neff Athletic Center.
