Sage opens action at University of Rochester Invitational

Rochester, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team opened action on Friday night at the University of Rochester Invitational. In the first match of the evening, St. John Fisher spoiled Sage's undefeated season as they triumphed, 3-2 (25-23, 16-25, 18-25, 25-14, 15-13). Sage then fell to Oswego State, 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-23). Sage stands at 3-2 now on the year.

Against St. John Fisher, sophomore outside hitter Siena Wilder (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) connected for seven kills with an ace and 10 digs, while sophomore setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) connected for 41 setting assists in the action while adding five digs.  Another rookie, defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) added 19 digs.

Senior Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Rochmondville) tallied nine kills with 18 digs and two aces, while junior middle hitter Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) had eight kills with an ace, three digs and a block assist. Senior middle hitter Rachel Martin (Troy, NY/Troy) added 13 kills for Sage with four total blocks.

Against Oswego Putriment added six kills with five digs, while Liebig connected for 20 setting assists. Mango and junior Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) each connected for four kills.                 

Play continues for the Gators on Saturday at the University of Rochester Invitational. Sage will face Elmira College and the University of Rochester in matches at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
