Win streak grows to 9 as Gators down Skidmore, 3-1

Saratoga Springs, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team travelled to Skidmore College and faced the Thoroughbreds in the first match of the Skidmore Invitational. Sage spoiled Skidmore's home opener as they won, 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-21, 26-24) and extended their win streak in the process to nine straight wins. Sage improves to 12-4 on the year, while Skidmore falls to 2-9.

Sage was paced by the play of senior tri-captain Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) as she racked up a double-double with her 24 digs and 16 kills. Sage's sophomore setter and team tri-captain Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) handed out 46 setting assists with two kills and 11 digs.

Sophomore Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) had 14 kills with five digs, while sophomore outside hitter Siena Wilder (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) connected for a team-best 25 digs with two aces.

Rookie Missy Scheiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) added 21 digs, while senior Rachel Martin (Troy, NY/Troy) connected for seven kills and two block assists. Junior tri-captain Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) added four kills with two digs and three total blocks.

On her career, Liebig is closing in on her 1,000th career setting assists as she now has 968 and will become just the eighth player in program history to join the club. Mango continues to add to her career block totals as she has 172 and stands No. 6 on the career list as a Gator. Putriment is making her run for the Sage career kills mark as she is currently No. 2 with her 1,193 kills.

Sage returns to action on September 27 back at Skidmore College and will face St. John Fisher College at 11 a.m. and Hamilton College at 3 p.m. to wrap play at the Skidmore Invitational.
